There’s no denying that Dwayne Haskins has serious arm talent as a quarterback, but he’s had a rocky start to his NFL career.
Some of the issues for Haskins arose on the pitch in 2020. It started with a report that he violated team protocols during the season and lost his role as captain as a result. What followed was a dismal performance on the pitch before Washington finally released him less than two years after taking him to the first round.
Now, Haskins is with the Pittsburgh Steelers after signing a one-year contract during the offseason. He will have the opportunity to work alongside quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and under the guidance of head coach Mike Tomlin, a matter Tomlin was asked about on Wednesday.
According to Steelers reporter Missi Mathews, Tomlin has indicated that he is currently more concerned with Haskins’ development as a person and how it affects his football:
Coach Tomlin on getting to know Dwayne Haskins: I was more concerned with Dwayne the person⦠what he went through⦠how it affected the growth and development of his game.

Haskins also said he was eager to prove to the Steelers organization that he loves football:
Haskins said he has known Josh Dobbs from college and trained with Mason Rudolph during the offseason. He’s also a “big fan of Big Ben for some time.”

Hopefully Tomlin and Pittsburgh can help Haskins find his feet as an NFL player. So far, it is good to see that they are actively trying to work on his total development and invest in his well-being.
