Bennacer discusses relationship with Biglia and personal development in Milan

AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer has insisted he can do better despite his impressive performances since arriving this summer.

Milan struck a deal with Empoli for the Algeria international just before he made it to the Africa Cup of Nations, winning the competition and being named player of the tournament in the process.

Bennacer has also been in good shape for Milan, having struggled to start early under former head coach Marco Giampaolo.

Many thought Stefano Pioli would prefer to use Lucas Biglia in the regista position due to the pair working together at Lazio, but so far the Argentine has been sidelined by Bennacer.

Evaluating his time at the club so far in an interview with Milan TV, the 22-year-old says there is room for improvement but familiarity with his teammates grows every day.

“African Golden Ball? I am happy to be one of the ten candidates. I have to keep working to be on this list every year, ”he said, via

“I don’t play anymore, I want to do very well. Now I know my teammates and those who work at Milanello better.

On his relationship with Lucas Biglia, he added: “I talk to him a lot, especially when I’m wrong. He helps me a lot and I learn so much from him. When you have friends like that, he’s always positive.

“I talk to everyone, we are a team and therefore I do not make any difference. With some I obviously have more affinities, but I talk and laugh with everyone.

“I’m learning so much, I have more confidence in myself now. I bring more ball when necessary, otherwise I try to play as vertical as possible when I can. I can do even better.

“We have to give everything for the fans. I hope Sunday’s game goes well. We have to give everything even for the hard working coach, when things don’t go well at the end the coach always pays.
